  • New values of the Republic of Korea – Values that can bring citizens together and lead them in the direction of a promising future while recognizing their diversity, i.e. value of cohesion

Back-
ground

  • The country’s level of social cohesion and happiness index are way behind those of more advanced countries.
    • * Ranking of the country among 34 OECD countries (2010): social solidarity: 21st; social stability: 29th; social equity: 28th

Purpose

  • Laying the basis of national cohesion by obtaining and disseminating future-oriented values shared by many citizens
    • -Exploration of new values of the country that that can bring citizens together and lead them in the direction of a promising future while recognizing their diversity

  • (2016) Debate on integration now and after the country’s unification among North Korean escapees, relevant officials, and those from civic organizations through “the Long March of Hearings for National Cohesion in Preparation of Unification”
    • - Laying the basis of national cohesion by helping North Korean escapees settle successfully in the South and making preparations for unification through informal meetings and publication of books with diverse stakeholders taking part
