Moments of National Cohesion
We are all a part of Team Korea
We have a proud history of all citizens uniting as one.
Gold Collection Campaign during the 1997 IMF Financial Crisis
The Gold Collection Campaign began in 1998 as a means to overcome the 1997 Financial Crisis in Korea. More than 3.5 million citizens came together and contributed an approximate total of 227 tons of gold. This strong determination to face the crisis together was one of the most significant factors that enabled Korea to pay back the bailout loan from the IMF in full in August 2001.
2002 FIFA World Cup
Around 22 million Koreans came together in June 2002 to cheer on the national World Cup football team. The barriers between genders, regions and generations were completely broken down as everyone laughed and cried together in celebration of the national team’s achievements.
Voluntary cleanup of the 2007 oil spill in Taean-gun
More than 1.2 million volunteers headed to Taean-gun to help clean up after a catastrophic oil spill in 2007. Even young children joined in, which touched the hearts of many.
